Color Test

Using red text on a dark surface is said to facilitate viewing, to make it less tiring. Have a go and see for yourself...

Color Names

The following table shows the 16 colours (in alphabetical order) which can be referenced by their names (instead their of RGB hexadecimal number equivalents) in HTML/CSS definitions:

aqua | -- ff ff black | -- -- -- blue | -- -- ff fuchsia | ff -- ff
gray | 80 80 80 green | -- 80 -- lime | -- ff -- maroon | 80 -- --
navy | -- -- 80 olive | 80 80 -- purple | 80 -- 80 red | ff -- --
silver | c0 c0 c0 teal | -- 80 80 white | ff ff ff yellow | ff ff --

Here are the same colours, in different grouping (dim … bright):

black | -- -- -- black | -- -- -- black | -- -- --
navy | -- -- 80 — | -- -- c0 blue | -- -- ff
green | -- 80 -- — | -- c0 -- lime | -- ff --
teal | -- 80 80 — | -- c0 c0 aqua | -- ff ff
maroon | 80 -- -- — | c0 -- -- red | ff -- --
purple | 80 -- 80 — | c0 -- c0 fuchsia | ff -- ff
olive | 80 80 -- — | c0 c0 -- yellow | ff ff --
gray | 80 80 80 silver | c0 c0 c0 white | ff ff ff

Table layout has been achieved using an internal style sheet. More colours (and their names) can be found at e.g. W3Schools (accompanied by a lot of examples and some theory). [Thanks to Tom Keller, who is with (the new) Digital, for pointing out that this page was moved.] Digital has an introductory article by Claire Broadley, covering colours on the web.

Testing for JavaScript

Check whether JavaScript is enabled in your browser's options/preferences:
[The following two sections were encoded using Dodo's HTML Encoder.]

This snippet of code written in JavaScript displays part of the Standard ASCII table (the main printable characters); values 0..1F hex have been skipped as they are all control codes (for details see these tables provided by InjoSoft, or check the relevant table U0000 from Unicode Standard 5.1, or see this vintage quick-reference card found at Wikipedia). The last value shown (code 7F hex) is also a control code, DEL (for "Delete").
[Colours were chosen to mimick a vintage monochrome monitor screen: amber and green on an almost black background, simply for reasons of nostalgia.]

Special Characters

Here's a list of some letters/characters (excerpt from the IBM Extended ASCII table, DOS Code Page 00437); in most editors you will be able to insert them by holding down the [Alt] key while typing the decimal equivalent on the number keypad with [NumLock] set to ON.
To the right you will also find the HTML coding according to Unicode table U0080 (Latin-1). [Table is sorted by column 'U0080'.]

This is text which is meant to be updated by Content Management Software.
This specially tagged section has been added via Web Update Client (WUC) from XemiComputers.
Access is somehow restricted to keep things simple. (No fancy text formatting.) Anyway, within those limits it seems to work fine …

One more text section to demonstrate restricted updating.
This line was added after the page layout was changed.
